About
Our Story
Christchurch Toastmasters helps people develop public speaking and communication skills. Established in 1965, we the oldest Toastmasters club in Christchurch. We were also the fifth club to be chartered in New Zealand. Over our 55 year history, we have helped hundreds of people become better communicators.
Our Club Today
Today, we have 30 active members, making us one of the largest Toastmasters clubs in Christchurch. Many of our past and present members have placed in national contests and served as leaders in the wider Toastmasters organisation.
We meet every Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the Cashmere Club (88 Hunter Terrace).
Club Leaders
- Provides leadership and sets the club’s culture
- Chairs committee meetings
- Closes the meeting and provides notices
- Represents the club in the wider Toastmasters community
- Manages Easy Speak
- Schedules speeches and other meeting roles
- Signs off educational achievements
- Coordinates club contests
- Signs up new members with Toastmasters International
- Inducts new members into the club
- Greets guests and answers their questions
- Generates publicity to attract guests
- Replies to email enquiries
- Manages social media accounts
- Records meeting minutes
- Stores club records
- Manages club bank account
- Collects membership fees from members
- Makes payments to World Headquarters
- Prepares financial reports
- Arranges room and equipment
- Maintains club equipment
- Buys chocolate biscuits for breaks
- Greets attendees
- Supports incoming club leaders
- Provides guidance
